SICIS, the renowned Italian mosaic art factory has received a highly acclaimed award: First Trophy for ‘International Interior Design in the Perspective Award 2012 The annual Perspective Awards celebrate excellence in architecture, interiors and product design for both industry professionals and students.
Attracting entries and attendees of the very highest calibre, this ‘Design Oscar’ is one of the industry’s most sought after accolades in the region voted by judging panels comprising leading practitioners from around the world and expanded categories reflecting the most exciting areas in the Architecture & Design industry.
This year, a new ‘International’ category was introduced and SICIS is proud to receive the first trophy winner in this new ‘International Interiors’ category by their signature ‘artisan’ technique.
The award winning project involved creating a surface behind the counter that resembles a gold curtain at the entrance of the Cosmopol Casino in Stockholm of Sweden. Every single twenty‐four carat gold tessera of the mosaic panels is cut and placed by hand by a skilled team of mosaic masters, which results in an overall elegant wavy effect, creating a molten gold curtain. Perspective Publisher and Editor‐in‐Chief, Ms Suzanne Miao congratulated SICIS and further emphasized: “The Perspective Awards 2012 was once again intensely competitive, a sure sign of a creative industry in great health. Our respected panel of judges from around the world exercised strict standards in deciding which entries deserved an award, and as we always say, ‘Entering does not guarantee a win. Only true excellence does’.”

In 1987, Maurizio Leo Placuzzi, opened a factory in Ravenna, Italy, part of a region renowned for its mosaics since the Byzantine era. He and his staff of artists and mosaic masters concentrate on the detail quality, know‐how and creativity required in producing a variety of high end mosaic tiles, products that are 100% made in Italy and 100% Sicis.
