A further confirmation of the quality of the Linea Light Group technical lighting solutions comes from Essen, Germany, where the Treviso-based company received the 2016 Red Dot AwardProduct design category with its 2nights, a refined wall light conceived to cast a soft diffused light for bed reading or for a moment of relaxation before a refreshing sleep.

2nights-linea-light-group Red Dot Award The Red Dot Award was founded in 1955 by Peter Zec, who is still today its President, and it is unanimously considered one of the most important design awards worldwide dedicated to designers and manufacturers.

About 5,200 products submitted by designers and manufacturers from 57 countries took part in the contest, now in its 61st year.

A wide range of proposals – no less than 31 product categories in the Product Design section – that were evaluated by an independent jury made up of designers, academics, designers, and journalists who awarded the prizes according to strict selection criteria.

In designing its technical lighting solutions, Linea Light Group has always availed itself of the contribution of renowned lighting designers. This particularly applies to 2nights, which stemmed from the creative mind of Davide Oppizzi, born in Switzerland in 1971, and founder of the DCUBE Design Espaces Lumiere SA agency, established  in 2001 in Geneva.

A versatile designer who, with his knowledge spanning many different fields, is a true protagonist on the international scene; indeed he works for celebrated luxury brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Graff.

A refined alluring design born of a traditionally craftsmanlike vision, distinct from any other  serial format, as it focuses on the uniqueness and innermost nature of the object.

Design concept
What lies behind the creation of 2nights?  “Not the shape, rather, the functionality of the object” says Oppizzi. “During my many journeys, hardly ever have I found a multi-faceted versatile product that could illuminate a book while you are lying on your bed and lend a relaxed atmosphere to the room, enveloping it with a soft light, similar to that of a candle.  2nights was conceived bearing this in mind: a single LED source that can carry out the two functions mentioned above, while making it possible to achieve particular graphic and colour effects on the wall, in an amusing interplay of transformations.  Another plus:  the energy savings attained by using the LED technology, a further strength that adds to the aesthetic, expressive and functional characteristics of the product”.

Why Linea Light Group?  “This confirms – says Oppizzi – our synergy born some years ago based on the affinity with a versatile all-round company that is able to outline a product in all of its aspects, from design to production”.

2nights features
Entirely made in aluminium, the 2nights wall light is a small light gem with a compact size. The 4 W powerLED circuit, featuring CRI90 and 3 MacAdam steps for excellent colour reproduction, is integrated into a directional element with a warm white emission, the perfect light for reading.

The very same element, at right angles, conveys the emission upwards by means of an upper opening which can be fitted with an interchangeable decorative filter.  The product is available in a variety of finishes and base-mobile support combinations:  white-white, black-black, white-copper, and black-gold.

Further customization is possible by choosing among the different versions of filters: holed with a particular pattern, neutral matt or coloured. Light, passing through the filter, is projected on the wall behind where it creates many different evocative effects.

The Red Dot Award – Product Design will be awarded on 4 July 2016 during the official ceremony to be held in Essen. 2nights will be displayed at the Red Dot Design Museum, the largest contemporary design exhibition worldwide.  Additionally, two entire pages of the prestigious Red Dot Design Yearbook 2016/17 will be dedicated to the product that will be also included in the online official presentation as well as in the Red Dot app.
