Floem by De Castelli: a three-dimensional metal wall covering

Floem di De Castelli, rivestimento decorativo tridimensionale composto da petali metallici rosa, rossi e dorati su parete bianca.

Floem is a three-dimensional decorative wall covering designed by Jocelyn Yang and Tiffany Liao for De Castelli. Composed of individual metal elements inspired by lotus petals, it combines copper with a DeNuance finish and DeLabré brass. Mounted on concealed supports that offset them from the wall, the elements create an interplay of shadows and reflections that changes with the light and enhances the depth of the composition.

From lotus petals to a sculptural composition

The name Floem combines the English words flower and poem, referencing the poetic world of Li Qingzhao, one of the most celebrated poets of China’s Song Dynasty. Jocelyn Yang and Tiffany Liao translate this inspiration into a contemporary design language, using organic forms that evoke the delicacy of petals without reproducing them literally.

The metal elements feature irregular profiles and sculpted surfaces that can be arranged in different configurations. Their placement creates a sequence of volumes, transforming the wall into a decorative surface with a distinctly sculptural character.

DeNuance copper and DeLabré brass: finishes and depth

Each element is fixed to the wall using concealed supports that hold it away from the surface. Light falls across the metal profiles and curves at different angles, producing shadows and reflections that emphasise the three-dimensional effect.

De Castelli’s exploration of metal finishes is expressed through the combination of DeNuance copper and DeLabré brass. Warm tones and subtle chromatic variations contribute to the sculptural quality of the wall covering.

The freedom to arrange the elements in different configurations allows Floem to adapt to residential, hospitality and contract interiors while retaining its distinctive sculptural identity.
