A project in harmony with nature
ARC’TERYX, the iconic outdoor apparel brand, has opened its first ReBIRD™ Service Center in a ski area, located on the shores of Lake Songhua, in Jilin Province. This temporary experiential space was designed by STILL YOUNG, seamlessly blending functionality and immersive experience to create an environment dedicated to outdoor skiers, embracing sustainability and responsible design.
Design and creative recycling: a sustainable refuge
The ReBIRD™ Service Center stands as an impactful installation, perfectly integrated with the snowy landscape. A majestic 6-meter-high jacket and a field of colorful tents echo the shapes of the surrounding mountains, creating a striking contrast between design and nature. The facades of the tents and the jacket were made using recycled fabrics from discarded garments, giving new life to materials and turning the concept of circularity into reality.
Architecture inspired by the natural landscape
Inside the center, architectural elements reflect the natural beauty of the surrounding environment. At the heart of the space is the bar counter, wrapped in an ice sculpture inspired by the shape of Lake Songhua. The sculpture’s sinuous lines mirror the forms of the mountains and ice, creating a visual dialogue between the exterior and interior. Warm materials such as layered wood contrast with the crystalline transparency of the ice, emphasizing a welcoming and sophisticated aesthetic.
A gathering place for outdoor enthusiasts
This project is not just a pop-up store but a social gathering space for skiers and mountain lovers. The central bar becomes the focal point of the experience, surrounded by exhibition areas, a VIP lounge, and the ReBIRD™ area.
- VIP Lounge: a cozy space featuring wooden seating, comfortable upholstery, and a live-flame fireplace, where skiers can unwind after a day on the slopes.
- Exhibition Area: dedicated to the ReBIRD™ philosophy, focusing on recycling, repair, and maintenance of outdoor gear.
- ReBIRD™ Area: offering repair and specialized washing services to extend the lifespan of technical garments, aligning with the brand’s commitment to sustainability and circularity.
An installation between nature and sustainability
Guided by the mantra “The Mountains Make Us Better”, ARC’TERYX redefines the concept of outdoor retail through innovative and sustainable architecture. The ReBIRD™ Service Center is not just a rest stop for skiers but a symbol of change towards a more environmentally conscious future.
