A Century-Old Heritage with Contemporary Vision
Founded in 1919, Ulloa Óptico is a family business now in its third generation, with 30 stores across Spain. Over the past century, the brand has introduced advanced optical systems, refraction techniques, hearing aids, and contact lenses, positioning itself as a leader in the sector.
Optical Store Design in Madrid: A Linear Concept
The store layout, crafted by Isabel López Vilalta+Associates, is linear and functional, ensuring an immediate view of sunglasses and prescription frames. A central structure, designed to streamline service, creates a tailored customer experience. Horizontal cuts intersect with longitudinal elements, forming a pentagram-like pattern enriched with circular mirrors.

Central Feature and Functional Zoning
At the heart of the store lies a softly illuminated, elongated table within the central structure. One side features cabinets and displays showcasing curated eyewear selections, while the other side accommodates the checkout area.
Connecting Spaces and Visual Accents
A wide corridor leads visitors through the storage zone to a private consultation room. Adjacent to it, a small indoor garden—visible from the main entrance—adds an inviting visual touch that draws the attention of passersby.

Materials and Finishes
The palette includes dark wood for flooring and lower sections of the linear plan, white backlit methacrylate for displays, ash-toned lacquered metal for the central structure, and acrylic resin for tables and showcases. In the hallway, iridescent light-painted walls pair with ceramic tile flooring, while cabinet interiors feature lighter-toned tiles and off-white walls for a clinical, precise aesthetic.
Lighting as a Design Statement
The lighting scheme combines horizontal and vertical backlit planes with targeted spotlights, effectively highlighting key design features and enhancing the overall spatial experience.

Tradition Meets Modernity
By combining high-quality materials with meticulous craftsmanship, the store embodies Ulloa Óptico’s dual identity—deeply rooted in tradition yet seamlessly aligned with contemporary aesthetics.
