Designed by Masquespacio for Houtique, Déjà-Vu is a stool that translates the Spanish brand’s distinctive visual identity into a compact piece of furniture defined by colour, texture and contrasting metallic finishes.
Originally presented within Houtique’s installation at Maison & Objet Paris, the stool combines the expressive use of fringe with a slender metal structure, bringing together a soft upholstered volume and reflective surfaces.
A design built around contrast
Déjà-Vu reflects the colourful and unconventional language developed through the collaboration between Masquespacio and Houtique.
The seat is conceived as a compact upholstered volume surrounded by layers of fringe, while the supporting structure introduces a deliberately different material character. A circular base and footrest are finished in chrome, contrasting with the central metal tube, which features a 24-karat gold-plated finish.
The combination of textile and metal establishes the main visual tension of the design: softness and movement in the upper section are set against the geometric precision and reflective quality of the base.
Fringe as part of the object’s identity
Rather than functioning simply as decoration, the fringe defines the silhouette of Déjà-Vu and changes its appearance according to the viewing angle and movement around the object.
This expressive treatment connects the stool with Houtique’s broader design language, characterised by saturated colours, tactile surfaces and an intentionally unconventional approach to furniture.
Materials and construction
The seat is made from particleboard with fire-retardant foam, while the circular base and footrest are made of metal with a chrome finish. The central tube introduces a further material accent through its 24-karat gold-plated finish.
This combination of upholstery, fringe and reflective metal gives Déjà-Vu a distinctive presence while maintaining the simple typological structure of a bar stool.
