Lighting Design for Al Zain Jewellery in Bahrain

lighting for luxurious retail space

At the Al Zain Jewellery store in City Centre Bahrain, the lighting design combines general, accent and display lighting to establish a clear visual hierarchy throughout the retail interior, keeping the jewellery at the centre of attention.

Developed by Studio N, the lighting strategy complements the contemporary interior while balancing visual comfort, uniform illumination and the specific requirements of jewellery display.

Three layers of lighting for the jewellery store

The lighting strategy is structured around three key layers of illumination. The first uses low-glare spotlights with a high Colour Rendering Index (CRI) to provide bright and uniform lighting across the retail space.

The second layer consists of concealed accent lighting integrated into the wall joinery. The light sources remain visually discreet while highlighting selected finishes and architectural surfaces within the interior.

Integrated lighting for jewellery display cases

The third layer is dedicated to the display cases and counters, a central component of the overall lighting design. Here, the illumination is concealed and deliberately minimal to maintain visual comfort and avoid distracting attention from the merchandise.

The display lighting creates the brightest points of contrast within the store, drawing the eye towards the jewellery while enhancing its brilliance and visual definition.

1000 lux and a 4000 K colour temperature

A key requirement of the project was compliance with both the brand guidelines and the shopping mall’s lighting standards, which specified a minimum illumination level of 1000 lux and a consistent colour temperature of 4000 K.

The resulting scheme integrates functional lighting, architectural accents and display case illumination within a coordinated system, balancing the overall visibility of the space with the more concentrated light required to emphasise the jewellery.
