Pinklay’s Flagship Store: A Fusion of Vibrancy and Culture
Pinklay, a homegrown lifestyle brand, is dedicated to celebrating Indian handcrafts through vibrant designs. With an extensive collection of clothing, home décor, furnishings, and accessories, the brand’s ethos centers around its motto, “Travel with Pinklay.”
When tasked with designing their largest store in a new city, Crafted Spaces envisioned a retail experience that embodies youthfulness, vibrancy, and cultural heritage while encouraging customers to shop, converse, and linger.
Design Concept: Greek Inspiration with Indian Charm
To bring Pinklay’s vision to life, Crafted Spaces conceptualized a Greek-inspired space infused with Indian elements. The aim was to create an immersive shopping experience akin to an art gallery, guiding customers through fluid, curved walls and artistic flooring.
Façade: A Striking First Impression
The store’s façade was initially a blank, white 90-foot-long wall. To stand out in a locality filled with high-end boutique stores, a bold floral mural with lotus motifs – borrowed from Pinklay’s collection – was hand-painted on the façade. The mural featured a pop of the brand’s signature blue, ensuring the storefront commanded attention.
Interior: Murals and Neutral Elegance
Inside, the design language continued with three hand-painted murals reflecting Pinklay’s ethos. These vibrant art pieces were balanced by neutral walls, allowing the brand’s clothing and décor items to take center stage.
Design Process: Crafting a Dynamic Space
The store’s location in a prime area required meticulous planning to meet both aesthetic and functional needs. Crafted Spaces embraced elements inspired by Santorini, blending whitewashed walls, white pebbles, organic flagstone flooring, and vibrant pops of blue, pink, and yellow.
Key Features:
- Natural Light: A double-height display window floods the store with natural light, enhancing the airy feel.
- Curved Walls: These soften the space, address the challenge of a low 8-foot ceiling, and create playful, transitional areas.
- Unique Flooring: Organic grey Tandur stone pieces form bold, curved patterns that add texture and drama.
- Arches and Flow: Archways connect rooms seamlessly, while curved display rods, walls, and a central bench enhance the fluid design.
- Feature Wall and Staircase: A vibrant yellow wall and newly designed staircase lead to the first-floor furniture and rug display, adding warmth and personality.
A Playful Blend of Prints and Patterns
The final result is a playful yet elegant mix of textures, prints, and patterns, reflecting both the vibrancy of Pinklay and the design expertise of Crafted Spaces. By combining Greek minimalism with Indian artistry, the store offers customers a unique environment to shop, connect, and be inspired.
With its thoughtful design, bold visuals, and seamless functionality, Pinklay’s flagship store exemplifies how Crafted Spaces can bring a brand’s story to life in a way that resonates deeply with its audience.
