Arc’teryx store in Beidahu: experiential retail design between fire and snow

Arc'teryx Store

The new Arc’teryx store in Beidahu, set within the snowy landscape of the Jilin ski resort in China, redefines the concept of experiential retail design. More than a conventional point of sale, the store is conceived as a meeting place for winter sports enthusiasts, where every snow adventure ideally begins.

The Canadian brand, known for high-performance technical apparel, collaborated with the creative team at Still Young to develop an environment that brings together nature, architecture and outdoor culture in a visual and sensory narrative. The aim is not only to present products, but to build a broader relationship with visitors, based on exploration, comfort and belonging.

The Arc’teryx store in Beidahu as a space for connection

Located in a secluded corner of the ground floor, the Arc’teryx store in Beidahu stands out for its enveloping material design. The light wood cladding of the external envelope emerges as an autonomous structure, almost like a cabin suspended among snow-covered peaks.

This architectural choice builds a strong visual identity and establishes a direct connection with the surrounding landscape. Moreover, the internal organization moves beyond traditional commercial schemes: only one third of the surface is dedicated to direct sales, while the rest is designed to encourage interaction, discovery and engagement.

Architecture inspired by nature, between fire and ice

The design concept develops around two primary elements: the warmth of fire and the force of snow. The triangular structures that define the interiors recall the flames of a bonfire, while a scenographic central acrylic installation, shaped like a glacier, captures attention and guides the visitor flow through the space.

The contrast between natural materials, such as wood and stone, and more technical surfaces, including backlit acrylic, creates a balance between outdoor references and contemporary language. As a result, the store becomes an artificial yet credible landscape, where every detail evokes the strength of the mountain environment.

Functional details for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts

A large covered veranda at the entrance welcomes skiers and snowboarders arriving from the slopes, offering a resting area where they can arrange their equipment or take a break. Inside, warm and diffused lighting recreates the intimate atmosphere of a contemporary alpine refuge.

The suspended fireplace becomes a symbolic focal point, around which people can gather and socialize. Lightweight fabric curtains and the irregular ceiling geometries suggest the feeling of being under an expedition tent.

In addition, furniture on wheels allows the space to be quickly reconfigured for events, workshops or seasonal changes. Each element is designed to align with the rhythm of outdoor activities and with the operational needs of the store.

Experiential design for the outdoor community

In the innermost part of the store, an area has been created for technical training and information. Here, on dark grey stone surfaces and wood panels, meetings, educational sessions and practical demonstrations related to the mountain world take place.

The use of mechanical components, such as pulleys and cableway-inspired systems, gives the space a sense of authenticity and dynamism. This area addresses not only customers, but also a community of enthusiasts, alpine guides and outdoor sports professionals.

The Arc’teryx store in Beidahu thus becomes an experiential hub, where the brand can communicate its technical culture and build real connections with the territory and those who experience it.
