The nautical language as spatial structure.
The yacht as a design code guides the entire intervention of the Nautica Black Label flagship store in Changchun, where the nautical reference is not a decorative theme, but a constructive principle. A suspended membrane interprets the sail, a light wood floor recalls the deck, while tension cables draw light and performative walls.
SLT Design translates the โDNAโ of a yacht โ balance, technical precision, the relationship between solids and voids โ into a coherent and replicable architectural system. The narrative inspiration, The Dream of Great Voyages, does not create a scenographic setting, but structures a dynamic perception of space, shaped by rhythm, tension and continuity.
Layout and spatial sequence: departure, race, return
The layout follows a clear sequence โ โDeparture, Race, Returnโ โ organizing the interior distribution through variations in intensity and perception.
At the entrance, sharp volumes and black lava panels introduce a compact material threshold. The dark surfaces evoke mineral density, while corrugated stainless steel display units reflect the light with a vibrating effect, suggesting continuous movement.
The light wood flooring stabilizes the reading of the space and acts as an orienting surface. On this plane, the display systems are not isolated elements, but devices that build trajectories and visual relationships.

Ceiling and display devices: an abstract sail
The ceiling is defined by a large continuous membrane that reinterprets the sail in an abstract way. This element unifies the space and reduces visual noise, creating a fluid surface above the display systems.
The interwoven โsail slicesโ introduce a layered dynamic that recalls the movement of a yacht between wind and waves. The result is a non-literal image, built through overlaps and visual tensions.
Cable systems and modular design
The nautical logic is clearly translated into the tension cable systems fixed to the wall. Inspired by the pulleys and technical devices of sailing boats, these elements are reinterpreted in architectural terms.
The system generates a light and precise structure, where each component appears suspended yet perfectly controlled. This approach also becomes a method: SLT develops three scalable modular systems based on standardized and reconfigurable components.
- showcases and walls in corrugated steel and black lava;
- transparent islands that guide circulation flows;
- slim flexible displays for corridors and transition areas.
Modularity enables replicability and reduces invasive interventions, supporting a more efficient and sustainable approach.
Lounge and immersive dimension
In the final area, the lounge introduces a change of rhythm through a shift in material and atmosphere. The space takes on a more intimate character, evoking the atmosphere of a yacht club.
Dynamic LED screens show moving waves, while mirrored surfaces amplify the perceived depth. The result is a controlled immersive environment, where light and reflections build a layered perception.

Detail and consistency of language
Even in the details, the project maintains consistency with the concept. In the fitting rooms, cleat-inspired hooks introduce a functional nautical reference, without resorting to explicit decorative elements.
Furniture and volumes โ display tables, shelving, cash desk โ adopt inclined or tapered profiles, suggesting a continuous dynamic tension. The entire space is built through relationships between surfaces, light and structure.
The result is a retail environment that does not represent the sea, but interprets its conditions: balance, pressure, lightness and movement.
