Yinno Unico Boutique Hangzhou by MMC Design

For the Yinno Unico boutique in Hangzhou, MMC Design conceived a retail space defined by fluidity, geometry and poetic spatial narration. The project translates the brand values into a multi-dimensional environment inspired by female empowerment, sacred geometry and the relationship between light and architecture.

A retail concept inspired by female empowerment

The Yinno Unico brand concept focuses on the contemporary female spirit of self-growth through wisdom, courage, confidence, knowledge and artistic cultivation.

MMC Design drew inspiration from Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, as a symbolic figure capable of representing the awakening of female power and liberation from traditional constraints. This reference becomes the conceptual foundation for a retail environment designed to communicate the identity and values of the brand.

Geometry and spatial order inside the boutique

The project references the primitive strength of the Parthenon and the Pyramids to create a space based on geometric forms and spatial order.

Triangular and rectangular geometries derived from those architectural archetypes are integrated into the boutique to generate rhythm, balance and continuity. Through this composition, the project reflects the relationship between geometry, nature and human exploration.

MMC Design approaches the spatial composition almost as a “building blocks” exercise, creating a pure and multi-dimensional environment where geometry becomes a symbolic and emotional language.

Curved walls and the veil of the universe

The entrance features curved walls, circular lines inscribed into the floor and a rock positioned at the center of the space. Light descends softly from the recessed ceiling, emphasizing the rounded architectural edges and creating a calm and contemplative atmosphere.

The design references Johannes Kepler’s concept from The Cosmic Mystery, where the solar system is associated with Platonic solids. This narrative transforms the entrance into a symbolic “veil” between physical space and a more spiritual or cosmic dimension.

Curved walls divide and connect the functional areas of the store simultaneously. Their composition is inspired by the works of Joma Sipe, whose paintings explore sacred geometry, rhythm and cyclical forms.

Staircase design and geometric rhythm

The staircase acts as both a functional connection between the first and second floor and a central architectural feature within the boutique.

Designed with rigorous proportions and geometric progression, the staircase gradually expands from different viewpoints, creating a strong visual axis that guides visitors vertically through the space. Reflections and mirrored surfaces amplify the perception of rhythm and movement, transforming circulation into part of the retail experience.

Lighting design and material textures

Light plays a central role in defining the atmosphere of the boutique. MMC Design uses lighting to reveal textures, geometry and materiality inside the space while reinforcing the connection between architecture and artistic expression.

The grooves of ancient Greek Doric columns are reinterpreted in architectural structures, furniture and surfaces through a system of gaps that allow light to penetrate the interiors. The lighting interacts with finishes inspired by Pentelic marble textures, recalling the material identity of the Parthenon.

Natural lighting emphasizes the fabrics, ceramic-like textures and the red arc-shaped steel island. Contrasts between hues, materials and textures generate a dynamic visual balance while reinforcing the continuity of the spatial axis.
