In Shanghai, Lalique translates its long-standing relationship with nature, craftsmanship and decorative art into a flagship store designed by AB Concept. Conceived by Ed Ng and Terence Ngan, the interior combines sculptural display elements, deep blue surfaces, bespoke furnishings and references to the brand’s historic visual language.
The project marks Lalique’s first collaboration with an interior design studio, introducing a new spatial identity while maintaining the refined material character associated with the French Maison.

Nature and craftsmanship shape the retail concept
AB Concept develops the interior around references to Lalique’s heritage, particularly its recurring connection with botanical forms and decorative glass. The store is conceived as a sequence of carefully framed settings in which furniture, display surfaces and colour create a controlled backdrop for the collections.
One of the key bespoke elements is a charcoal-coloured carpet created by House of Tai Ping. Its floral pattern was inspired by one of Lalique’s early perfume bottles, translating a historic motif into a contemporary textile surface.

Royal blue defines the VIP area
In the VIP area, deep royal blue velvet introduces a more intimate atmosphere. The wall treatment is shaped through folds and recesses that frame selected displays, while black velvet curtains and art panels define the perimeter of the lounge.
The use of saturated colour creates a strong contrast with the darker furnishings and the luminous crystal objects, allowing the products to remain visually prominent within the space.

Wood and sculptural displays create a layered interior
Wood plays an important role in the composition, introducing warmth and depth alongside the darker reflective surfaces. Large sculptural elements organise the display areas and create a sequence of visual layers through which the collections are progressively revealed.
Rather than relying on a uniform retail layout, the project combines different scales and levels of enclosure, allowing the customer journey to move between open display areas and more intimate settings.

The result is a flagship store in which Lalique’s heritage is interpreted through materiality rather than literal historical references. Colour, textile surfaces, wood and sculptural display structures work together to create a refined environment that gives the crystal collections a strong architectural presence.
