Shanghai Tang Boutique at Pacific Place, Hong Kong

Stefano Tordiglione Design Shanghai Tang boutique

At Pacific Place in Hong Kong, Shanghai Tang develops a 154 sqm boutique that combines the brand’s contemporary luxury identity with references to Chinese visual culture. The project was creatively directed by Carlotta Turini, while Stefano Tordiglione Design handled executive design and project management.

Colour, fabrics and material contrasts define the interior, translating the brand’s distinctive aesthetic into a sequence of retail environments dedicated to accessories, womenswear, menswear and home collections.

Colour and materiality define the boutique

Shanghai Tang is known for combining contemporary design with references to Chinese heritage, and this approach is reflected throughout the boutique. The interior uses a broad palette of saturated colours, fabrics and decorative surfaces to create distinct atmospheres within the different retail areas.

Wall niches, display cases and integrated shelving are framed by blue, yellow and pink surfaces, while metallic detailing and illuminated recesses reinforce the visual hierarchy of the products.

Womenswear, menswear and central lounge

The womenswear area is defined by curved walls, soft beige fabrics and brighter colour accents, creating a lighter and more expressive atmosphere. The menswear area adopts a more restrained language, with dark brown wood, cleaner lines and deeper tones.

The two zones are connected by a central seating area furnished with Art Deco-inspired pieces. Velvet seating in green and pink introduces a domestic quality, while a large rug and strong graphic motifs reinforce the brand’s visual identity.

Fitting rooms and decorative references

The fitting rooms and home section incorporate decorative wall coverings, including Jim Thompson wallpapers, introducing more explicit references to Asian visual culture. These elements are balanced by contemporary shelving systems and custom-designed display structures.

Throughout the boutique, niches are used to punctuate the circulation and create visual focal points between the different departments. This approach supports a fluid customer journey while allowing each product category to retain a distinct identity.

Executive design and project delivery

The boutique was completed within six months, with Stefano Tordiglione Design responsible for executive design and project management. The studio translated the creative concept into detailed design development, coordinating materials, finishes and construction to deliver the completed space.

The resulting interior establishes a coherent dialogue between colour, materiality and display, creating a boutique that reflects Shanghai Tang’s contemporary identity while retaining references to Chinese culture and decorative tradition.
