A contemporary optical retail design for a compact space
Sync Design Studio reimagines Optics Express in Janakpuri, Delhi, as a bold example of contemporary optical retail design. Within a mere 250 square feet, the studio creates a sculptural and immersive boutique where form meets function. The store departs from conventional eyewear retail formats, introducing a bold identity that balances artistic expression with commercial effectiveness.
The client’s goal was to build a unique architectural identity while establishing a memorable retail experience for eyewear. With limited space and budget, the design had to be not only aesthetically distinctive but also highly efficient.

Custom display units redefine the eyewear experience
To maximize floor circulation and browsing comfort, the designers opted for custom display units suspended above the ground. These cantilevered acacia wood shelves, locally sourced and handcrafted with a live edge, introduce warmth and authenticity while ensuring the floor remains completely unobstructed.
The elevated shelving system also offers a refreshing alternative to bulky floor-to-ceiling displays, enhancing product visibility and encouraging a more organic customer interaction with the merchandise.
Material contrasts and handcrafted textures elevate the interior
Throughout the space, material contrast plays a central role. Sculptural metal display installations on the walls produce layered shadows that animate the interiors. Earthy textures and a warm, neutral color palette—complemented by large mirrors and reclaimed wood art frames—expand the perceived volume and add a quirky, youthful tone.
This approach not only optimizes spatial perception but also invites emotional engagement, turning the boutique into a sensory environment rather than a simple point of sale.

From façade to details: building a strong retail identity
The façade, finished in a modern slate tone, is defined by a clear glass window and a solid bar signage frame that enhances long-distance visibility. The transparency of the storefront invites natural light and sparks curiosity among passersby, increasing foot traffic.
Together, these elements reinforce a cohesive brand presence—from interior shelving to external architecture—making Optics Express a standout example of contemporary optical retail design in a dense urban setting.
