Located in Beijing Financial Street, Amoon Optical + Café was designed by TEMP as a 180 sqm retail space combining an optical store with a café. The project integrates eyewear display, consultation areas and hospitality within a flexible layout where geometric forms, movable partitions and bespoke furniture define both circulation and customer experience.
TEMP designs Amoon Optical + Café in Beijing
Amoon Optical is recognised for its selection of international eyewear brands. For its new location, TEMP developed an interior that combines the functions of an optical store and a café without separating the two activities into independent environments.
The project is organised around a series of repeated arches and curved elements that establish a consistent architectural language throughout the interior. Rather than functioning solely as formal devices, these geometries define display areas, organise circulation and connect the different parts of the store.

Arches organise display and circulation
The repeated arches become the project’s primary spatial element.
Large curved structures extend from the walls, serving both as architectural features and product display systems. Together with partitions and walls, they divide the interior into distinct functional areas while maintaining visual continuity across the space.
The geometry recalls the rounded forms of eyeglass frames, translating one of the product’s defining characteristics into the architectural composition.

A flexible layout combining optical store and café
The integration of the café required a flexible approach to the interior layout.
Consultation tables used for eye examinations and eyewear fitting can also function as café seating during busy periods. A series of circular string screens separates the larger open space into smaller, more private areas while remaining fully reconfigurable through rotating hinges.
A C-shaped service counter and bamboo screens further organise the relationship between the optical store and the café, creating distinct yet visually connected environments.
Bamboo furniture and mirrored surfaces
TEMP also designed a collection of bespoke bamboo chairs assembled using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery techniques from southern China.
Mirrors serve both functional and spatial purposes. In addition to allowing customers to try on eyewear, they visually extend the interior and multiply the perception of the brass and timber display structures throughout the store.
