The Mumbai event brings together brands, designers and in-store solution providers

Over three days, the event brought together retail brands, technology providers, designers, visual merchandising specialists, architects and industry companies. The 17th edition hosted 80 exhibitors and welcomed more than 5,000 visitors, offering a setting for professional networking, industry collaboration and discussion on the future of contemporary retail.

Retail technology and store design are central to the exhibition

The 2026 edition presented the latest developments in retail technology, digital signage, visual merchandising, commercial lighting, fixtures and store equipment, POP solutions, experiential retail and sustainable store design.

Among the key new features introduced on the exhibition floor were Designers’ Village and Retail Tech Integration. Designers’ Village offered a dedicated space for retail designers and visual merchandising professionals, with projects focused on visual storytelling and new concepts for the physical store.

Retail Tech Integration highlighted the growing role of advanced technologies within commercial spaces, with solutions based on artificial intelligence, smart store ecosystems and tools for omnichannel integration.

The conference programme examines the evolution of physical retail in the digital era

The concurrent conference programme explored some of the themes currently transforming the retail sector. Sessions and forums addressed changing consumer behaviour, omnichannel strategies, the application of artificial intelligence in retail, experiential formats and the future of the physical store in an increasingly digital context.

The event provided an opportunity for dialogue among operators, designers and solution providers, contributing to the analysis of new market needs and future development scenarios for the sector.

The VM&RD Retail Design Awards recognise innovation and visual merchandising

Among the most anticipated moments of the event, the VM&RD Retail Design Awards confirmed their role in recognising projects in visual merchandising and retail design.

The VM Challenge also attracted strong interest, involving six teams of visual merchandisers asked to create window installations based on the theme “Little Worlds, Big Imaginations”, which was announced during the competition.
