Anand Jewels Bhopal by groupDCA Interprets Indian Heritage Through Contemporary Jewelry Retail Design

Lo Studio groupDCA firma il progetto della nuova gioielleria Anand all’interno del DB Mall di Bhopal

Anand Jewels Bhopal is a jewelry store designed by groupDCA inside DB Mall in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. Conceived for the Indian jewelry brand Anand Jewels, the project translates the cultural heritage of handcrafted jewelry into a contemporary retail environment defined by spatial sequencing, bespoke display systems and material richness. Led by architects Rahul Bansal and Amit Aurora, the interior design combines traditional references with a contemporary retail language tailored to the evolving identity of the brand.

The jewelry store layout transforms an irregular floorplate into an experiential retail journey

Located inside DB Mall, the store occupies a site with an unconventional geometry that directly informs the internal layout strategy. Rather than concealing the irregular profile of the space, groupDCA uses it to generate a sequence of interconnected retail environments that gradually unfold throughout the customer journey.

The spatial narrative organises the collections into dedicated zones according to jewelry typologies including Gold, Diamonds, Kundan and Polki. This arrangement encourages exploration while improving orientation and product hierarchy within the store.

Customers move progressively through a series of retail pockets that reveal different collections one after another, creating a slower and more immersive interaction with the products.

The VIP area introduces an intimate setting inspired by Indian wedding culture

At the centre of the project, the VIP zone becomes a focal point within the retail experience. Defined by deep scarlet and vermillion tones, the space is conceived to host clients during the extended selection process traditionally associated with Indian wedding ceremonies and celebrations.

The chromatic contrast between the intense red walls and the neutral palette of the surrounding spaces reinforces the ceremonial atmosphere of the room. Gold detailing appears throughout the interiors in controlled interventions that contribute to the perception of exclusivity without overwhelming the environment.

The design references the visual richness of Indian weddings, where vibrant colours, heirloom jewelry and decorative layering become integral components of the cultural experience.

Bespoke jewelry display systems and dark wood finishes at Anand Jewels

Bespoke furniture and jewelry displays reinforce the store’s material identity

The retail environment is defined by a curated combination of custom-made display systems, dark wood finishes and refined detailing. Wall modules and vitrines feature deep burgundy and blue undertones that introduce visual depth while maintaining a cohesive material palette.

Tables, upholstered armchairs in warm teal tones, decorative table lamps and display counters are carefully composed to balance functionality and atmosphere. The furniture strategy supports both product visibility and customer comfort, reinforcing the sense of quiet luxury throughout the store.

At the centre of the layout, a secular jewelry display counter integrates gilded jaali detailing that functions as both exhibition device and sculptural focal point. This decorative motif reappears across several areas of the store, creating visual continuity within the project.

Mirrors, lighting and ceiling geometry amplify the perception of space

Reflective surfaces play a key role in the interior composition. Vertical bevelled mirrors are positioned throughout the store to amplify reflections and increase the perception of spatial depth and grandeur.

The monochrome flooring introduces a restrained geometric language, while the checkered pattern at the centre of the plan defines the main circulation area and reinforces the visual rhythm of the layout.

Above, the coffered ceiling references the geometry of the flooring, establishing continuity between horizontal and vertical surfaces. The lighting strategy enhances jewelry presentation while contributing to the intimate and refined atmosphere of the store.

Anand Jewels balances traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary retail identity

The project reflects Anand Jewels’ intention to preserve Indian cultural heritage while adapting its retail identity to a contemporary audience. The store merges references to traditional craftsmanship with a spatial language based on clarity, hierarchy and material sophistication.

Rather than relying on ornamental excess, the project introduces carefully calibrated interventions that reinterpret elements of Indian decorative culture through a contemporary retail design approach. The result is a jewelry store that connects heritage, craftsmanship and customer experience within a coherent architectural narrative.
