Located in Brovary, Ukraine, By magic Krona is the result of a design by Vilchinskaya Design Bureau that blends aesthetic rigour, functionality, and a deep focus on user experience. Created in a time of great instability, the project affirms beauty as an act of resilience and belief in the future.

One of the first challenges faced by the team was the management of heights and volumes – an essential starting point for a functional and scenographic layout.

Rethinking the space: a balance between function and perception

The original layout consisted of a single-level space with ceilings 4.5 meters high. To optimise the available volume, the designers introduced a partial second level, allocating the lower 2.1-meter-high areas to low-activity functions such as the pedicure zone, hair-washing area, staff room, and restrooms.

This solution made it possible to emphasise the most representative areas—such as the hair styling zone and the reception desk – restoring vertical openness and enhancing the space’s original height. The result is a balanced and fluid composition in which every function is thoughtfully positioned.

Refined materials and visual comfort

A key design feature is the backlit onyx, used sparingly to define the freestanding mirror frames and the reception counter. Its luminous and chromatic vibration provides a calibrated scenographic presence, avoiding any sense of excess.

Complementing the onyx is technical porcelain stoneware, chosen for its high resistance to chemical agents and wear, and used to clad the most exposed surfaces. Brushed brass accents add warmth in areas less exposed to moisture. A palette of soft matte greys on floors and walls defines a refined and neutral backdrop that enhances the expressive qualities of the materials.

Fluid architecture and custom detailing

One of the visual highlights of the space is the curved staircase, designed as both a scenic backdrop and a photo zone. Entirely clad in mirrors – including the mezzanine railing – it expands the perception of space while visually dissolving the structural mass.

To further soften the environment, the ceiling was fitted with undulating fabric structures, tailor-made and custom-dyed to match the walls. Every detail was approached with sartorial precision: from the custom wooden shelves to the transparent leg of the manicure table, designed to preserve visual lightness.

Lighting was supplied by Ukrainian technical lighting brands and German manufacturer SLV, ensuring professional performance and visual comfort throughout the space.

A statement of beauty and resilience

The studio carefully curated each visual perspective, avoiding visual clutter and fostering a fluid, calming experience. All surfaces in contact with clients are made from natural, tactile materials chosen for durability and sensory comfort.

Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing war – including power outages and difficult working conditions – By magic Krona was completed in full fidelity to the original concept. The only change was the addition of the ceiling fabric structures, which required a bespoke dye process to integrate seamlessly into the space.

The result is a contemporary, refined salon in which care, balance, and attention to detail translate into a deeply welcoming and reassuring environment.
