Dune by MOSS Objects: light becomes a sculptural modular composition

Dune di MOSS Objects, sistema illuminotecnico modulare con elementi curvi in alluminio

With Dune, MOSS Objects introduces a modular lighting system in which light, form and movement generate suspended compositions with a strong sculptural presence. Designed by Daniel Becker and Elisa Bakaniev, the collection moves beyond the idea of a single luminaire to become a flexible system that can adapt to residential, hospitality and commercial spaces through different configurations and dimensions.

The design is based on the repetition and aggregation of individually shaped aluminium elements. Their curved surfaces connect in space to create fluid lighting structures, with each module contributing to a larger and potentially variable composition.

A modular system from four to twenty elements

Dune is built around aluminium elements that can be assembled in sequences ranging from four to twenty modules.

The system is available in five main configurations โ€” Curve, Cluster, Spiral, Vertical Line and Vertical Cluster โ€” allowing the composition to change in scale, proportion and orientation according to its architectural setting.

This modular approach makes it possible to move from relatively compact pendant arrangements to larger installations, including vertical configurations conceived for double-height lobbies and expansive architectural volumes.

The morphology of dunes translated into form

The collection’s source of inspiration is already expressed in its name. Dune draws on natural formations shaped by the wind, where geometry emerges through continuous transitions rather than rigid forms.

This principle is translated into sinuous metal surfaces and soft curves. Light interacts with the different inclinations of the aluminium, emphasising twists, concavities and variations in volume.

The connection points between the individual elements become part of the luminous composition, reinforcing the perception of a continuous structure that can develop freely within the surrounding space.

Aluminium, craftsmanship and light

Each element is handcrafted in Germany through an aluminium-forming process that gives the individual modules their distinctive sculptural quality.

The metal surfaces therefore do more than provide the physical structure of the luminaire: they reflect and modulate the light, accentuating the three-dimensional character of the composition.

The result balances visual lightness with material presence. Slender suspension cables tend to disappear from view, allowing the curved elements to appear almost freely suspended in space.

Five finishes for different atmospheres

Dune is available in five standard finishes: anodised silver, polished silver, gold tone, copper tone and dark bronze.

The silver versions emphasise the metallic character of aluminium and the precision of the composition, while gold, copper and dark bronze introduce warmer tones, changing the perceptual relationship between the luminaire, light and its surroundings.

The possibility of combining configuration, number of elements and finish further expands the flexibility of the system, allowing it to respond to architectural environments of different scales and characters.

A pendant system between lighting and sculpture

With Dune, modularity is not simply a functional feature but an integral part of the collection’s formal language. The repetition of individual elements allows light to assume different configurations and establish a direct relationship with the architectural volume.

The result is a suspended lighting system in which light and form become inseparable: a three-dimensional presence that changes according to the viewing angle and the selected composition.
